Progress!

We are so close to being open!  We have tons of great artists on board and my amazing team of interns from Columbia college has been working to make everything beautiful.  Below is where we started including the best all around awesome human Cody Kirchner sealing our super cool brick walls:

This week we started working on the window display.  The two Allies and Brandon folded a million paper cranes to make a colorful window curtain.

Note the sexy table the we refinished.  The whole store has been furnished for under $1,000 because Cody and I are serious scavengers and I am a pack rat.

Below are some quick snapshots of some of our set ups.  I'm sure they will change over and over until we open.

Stay tuned for featured artists later this week!

Introducing....

ONE STRANGE BIRD

A boutique of handmade and unique goods is set to open early/mid October in Chicago's Humbolt park neighborhood.  We are currently working on getting the space ready and getting shipments of exciting stuff!  We will carry: candles, handmade soaps, jewelry, feather extensions, hand printed tee shirts, cards, plush toys, and more!

Also, in November will will launch affordable artist run workshops, where members of the Wicker/Humbolt Park community can learn new, creative skills.

This is our blog we have created to share our process with you.  Look here for all news Bird Wise!

We are located at 2515 W. North Ave. Chicago, Il 60622.

One Strange Bird was created by Nicole Northway, and artist and educator at Columbia College

Our Mission:
One Strange Bird is a unique boutique featuring handmade gifts, apparel, and art in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.  Run by an artist, One Strange Bird seeks to foster a dialogue between process and product by featuring an on-site studio where artists make goods for the store. The space also features artist run workshops in many techniques and materials such as: screen printing, jewelry making, drawing, and painting.  It is our hope that One Strange Bird will blur boundaries between Fine Art and Craft, art and life, and process and product by having all reside in a singular space.

One Strange Bird will soon feature a rotating on-site mural wall and display window exhibition space, utilized by local artists.  This atypical “gallery” is a place to find affordable original pieces to jump-start your art collection. You will also find one-of-a-kind gifts, clothing, accessories, generally fun stuff made by local and national artists.  Our space seeks to support artists and champion handmade goods.  By supporting handmade and artisan goods at One Strange Bird, you support fair labor practices, family run businesses, and help create culture through your support of the arts.
